Several Ways for a Happier and Healthier Workday
We can tell that working at an office can be
surprisingly unhealthy. Eight hours in a chair in front of a computer, five
days a week can take a toll on our body. Between
sitting all day, eating poorly, and enduring never-ending stress, your office
can take a few years off your life.
We’ve
all experienced it, a workday that just feels off. Whether we’re tired,
stressed, hungry, or distracted by problems at home, it’s okay to have a rough
day but it shouldn’t become a regular event in our life.
1.
Be
Prepared.
Make your schedule for the
following week. Do you have sufficient time to rest your mind and nourish your
body with food between meetings, presentations, and deadlines? If not, go edits
your schedule and plan your work more efficiently.
Planning in advance will
bring you more confidence and peace of mind which, incidentally, are conducive
to your well-being.
2.
Set
your workspace in ergonomic ways.
It may not seem like it,
but sitting at your desk all day long can hurt your wrists, back, neck, and the
other body parts if done improperly.
You need to learn how to
set up your workspace more ergonomic.
3.
Change
your bad habit.
Everyone has a routine in
their life. Maybe you drink a coffee every morning, or perhaps you’re a
frequent visitor of the afternoon vending machine?
If you do, try to switch
this up for a little more healthier alternative.
Head to the cafeteria and
grab an apple or a bag of tomatoes, this way you stick with the ingrained habit
of leaving your desk for a snack at this time, yet you substitute a healthier
option.
This can be applied to
routines you keep any time of day. You know, small changes can make a big wins!
4.
Get
personal.
According to the Chinese
art of Feng Shui, it is good to have something that reminds you of the non work
related things on the left hand side of your desk—like a beautiful print, or a
holiday souvenir.
In the middle and top right
hand corners you can placed photos of your loved ones.
But remember to do not put
too much items, otherwise you will be distracted easily.
5.
Be
friend with your co-workers.
Sometimes co-workers can be
distracting and annoying, but being friends with them can actually make a work
a lot less stressful.
In fact, one study even found
that people who were friendly with their coworkers actually can live more
longer than who does not.
You can just talking
productivity, knowing which co-workers will help you in a bind is incredibly
useful, and easy to do with a single email.
You know, as long as you
can keep yourself from getting distracted, co-workers can actually be good for
your productivity and health.
